- W2010674773 abstract "Neiguan electroacupuncture (EA) has been believed to affect cardiovascular function and is used in traditional Chinese medicine to improve or treat a wide range of cardiovascular diseases. However, few physiological studies have assessed the effects of Neiguan EA on normotension and hypotension. In our recent series of studies, we investigated the effects of Neiguan EA on normotension and hypotension in open-chest dogs under anesthesia. We obtained left ventricular (LV) pressure–volume (P–V) data with a micromanometer catheter and a volumetric conductance catheter. In the normotension study, cardiovascular variables such as mean arterial pressure, end-diastolic volume, cardiac output, ESP and end-systolic elastance (Ees) gradually decreased by 5–10% over 1.5 h without Neiguan EA. However, Neiguan EA at 40 Hz increased them by 10–15%, especially Ees by 40% (P<0.05) over 15–60 min. In the hypotension study, hypotension was induced by bleeding via the femoral artery to approximately a 35% decrease in end-systolic pressure (ESP, approximately 70 mm Hg). One-hour Neiguan EA significantly recovered the decreased end-systolic pressure, end-diastolic volume and stroke volume by 31%, 27% and 39%, respectively (P<0.05). We conclude that Neiguan EA can provide a stable cardiovascular function under normotension and have an anti-shock effect on hemorrhage-induced hypotension." @default.
