- W2010908010 abstract "64 The purpose of this study was to examine the inter-unit reliability and measurement validity of the TriTrac-R3D accelerometer. Fourteen female(age=20.6±2.5 yrs.) and 6 male (age=23.5±4.6 yrs.) volunteers participated in five different exercises: treadmill walking and running, stepping, cycling and slideboard. These exercises were chosen because they involve all three planes of movement. Exercise duration was 20-30 minutes and intensity was increased every ten minutes by increasing either grade (walking, running) or rate (stepping, cycling, sliding). Indirect calorimetry(SensorMedics 2900) was used as the reference method. To test inter-TriTrac reliability, subjects wore a TriTrac on each hip fastened to a belt at waist level. Inter-TriTrac reliability ranged from r=0.80 to 0.98 for walking, running and slideboard. During the step test, the inter-TriTrac reliability decreased from r=0.88 to 0.43 as step rate increased. A one kcal/min difference was found between TriTracs at all intensities during walking, stepping and slideboard. These results indicate that the inter-TriTrac reliability is generally acceptable for the exercise conditions examined. Measurement validity was established by comparing kcal/min between IC and TriTrac using a twofactor ANOVA. An instrument X intensity interaction(p<0.05) was found for each mode. An example of this interaction is presented here for the walking mode, with similar results observed for the other modes.
