Ten females and 11 males aged <65 years and 6 females and 12 males aged >65 years with present or previous diabetic foot ulcers/foot problems. Results: The patients perceived the clinic to be well-functioning with high accessibility, fast and careful service, highly skilled staff, and in good co-operation between different departments. Primary health care was perceived as a weak link in the health care chain because lack of diabetes-related knowledge. Females expressed a higher need of verbal communication concerning management, strove for adaptation in daily life by searching for more information, and expressed a lack of holistic approach to the management. Males expressed more fears of the future and amputations, blindness, dependency in daily life, etc. Conclusions: The multidisciplinary clinic was perceived as well-functioning but need to provide complete information about DM and the management of diabetic foot to achieve a holistic approach and develop complete coping strategies in the patients. Gender differences in coping strategies need to be considered. Education of staff in PHC centres is urgently needed." @default.
