Evidence is presented for the presence of acetylserotonin methyltransferase (ASMT) activity in pineal organs of western roach (Hesperoleucus symmetricus) and comparisons are made with the activity of this enzyme in pineals of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri). 2. Although the enzyme activity in the trout pineal is 2–3 times greater than that in the pineal of the roach, ASMT levels in these species compare nearly with those known for some reptilian and avian pineals. 3.
