- W2011736605 abstract "The activation of hematin to oxidase or peroxidase upon addition of two different ligands together was studied by measuring both enzymic activity and spectral change as a function of the molar fraction of one of the two reagents mixed. Hematin solutions containing certain combinations of two reagents such as pyridine-guanidine and histidine-N,N-dimethylformamide show an oxidase activity, while the solution with either of the two reagents has no oxidase activity. Hematin with some other reagent combinations such as histidine-guanidine and pilocarpine-guanidine exhibits no oxidase activity but a peroxidase activity which is much higher than that of the complex with either of the two reagents. These activations were interpreted by a hypothesis of the formation of a hematin complex carrying different ligands. The rate constants, k1 and k4, for the peroxidase reaction were measured at the optimum pH and molar fraction of reagent, and the role of the apoproteins of common peroxidases is discussed in connection with the data obtained." @default.
