Single ultrathin Pt wires were previously used by the authors in an investigation of possible effects of electronic localization and interaction at low temperatures. Our principal conclusions are as follows. (1) The drawing process does not introduce appreciable quantities of the Ag matrix ($ensuremath{lesssim}3%$) or of other metallic impurities into Pt filaments. (2) Ultrathin Pt filaments remain polycrystalline at the smallest diameters, 100 nm, with very small grain size, ensuremath{sim} 10 nm. (3) The unusually large values of the resistivity ($ensuremath{rho}100ensuremath{mu}ensuremath{Omega}$ cm) found in Pt filaments are produced by structural disorder rather than by atomic impurities." @default.
