- W2012045751 abstract "The plastid genome of the rhodophyte Chondrus crispus was characterised by restriction mapping and hybridisation analysis. As deduced from single and double enzyme digests, the plastid genome is circular with a molecular size of approximately 173 kilobases. The genome appears to have only one copy of the 16S rRNA gene. The nucleotide sequence of this gene and flanking regions was determined. Its length was estimated to be 1491 nucleotides. Its secondary structure was constructed and compared with other known 16S rRNA secondary structures from cyanobacteria and plastids. A phylogenetic tree was built upon alignment of various 16S rDNA sequences from eubacteria and from green, red and brown plastids. The results support the idea that heterokont and cryptophyte plastids have their origin in the ‘red algal’ radiation." @default.
