- W201211906 abstract "This chapter presents some boundary layer suction experiments with laminar flow at high Reynolds numbers in the inlet length of a tube by various suction methods. Full-chord laminar flow and low-wing profile drags have been achieved at high Reynolds numbers on various laminar suction wings in low-turbulence tunnels and in flight by means of suction through individual slots and through porous surfaces. Full-chord laminar flow has been observed on laminar suction wings with individual slots in the TDT tunnel and in flight up to high-wing chord Reynolds numbers. This method does not appear too attractive for the application of low-drag boundary layer control over large areas of a laminar suction aeroplane. With suction through individual slots, spaced relatively far apart, the slots have to be designed and built with close tolerances to avoid disturbances created by the local flow around the suction slots themselves, which might lead to premature transition. Suction through relatively few individual slots, spaced at large intervals, will be less effective in stabilizing a laminar boundary layer at high Reynolds numbers than continuous or area suction, under the same conditions." @default.
