Natural zeolite mineral has been extracted from Miocene volcanic rocks that were exposed 100 km from South Jeddah, at Harrat Shama, Saudi Arabia. The biomimetic zeolite coat was deposited during the anodization process at 25 V in acid fluoride bath containing 0.5 wt% of natural zeolite at 60 °C with stirring. The surface morphology and chemical composition are determined by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The bioactivity of biomimetic natural zeolite coat/nanoporous titania (ZNT) sample was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique in Hank's solution at open circuit potential. The charge transfer resistance was very sensitive to the topography of the titanium surface, which indicates that the novel synthesized modified surface significantly increased the corrosion resistance of Ti in simulated physiological solution. This, in turn, referred to the bioactivity of Ti loaded with novel biomimetic natural ZNT that was strongly enhanced. Experimental findings revealed that the NT coated with natural ZNT has a high corrosion resistance (1.06 MΩ) in simulated body fluid. The high corrosion resistance of the natural zeolite coatings may rise up its potential applications in orthopedic implants." @default.
