- W2012187592 abstract "Dopamine produced dose-related decreases in rectal temperature when administered in doses of 100–600 μg into the cerebral ventricles of unanaesthetized cats. The alpha-adrenergic receptor blocking agent phentolamine antagonized hypothermic responses to dopamine and to intraventricular norepinephrine. Haloperidol, on the other hand, reduced responses to dopamine, but not those to norepinephrine. This indicates that dopamine acts on a specific dopamine receptor to lower temperature. To determine whether dopamine acts through release of endogenous norepinephrine or on noradrenergic neurones, 6-hydroxydopamine was administered intraventricularly. Responses to dopamine were reduced, but not prevented, by doses of 6-hydroxydopamine which completely abolish hypothermic responses to tyramine, an indirectly acting sympathomimetic amine. Responses to norepinephrine were not altered by 6-hydroxydopamine. These data indicate that intraventricular dopamine lowers temperature by direct interaction with central dopamine receptors. The major component of the hypothermic response to dopamine does not involve noradrenergic links which are sensitive to intraventricular 6-hydroxydopamine." @default.
