- W2012247691 abstract "Abstract Experimental results of the investigation of field emission through organic molecules (CuPc and anthrachinone) adsorbed on tungsten are reported. Special attention was payed to the total energy distribution (TED) of the field emitted electrons. The results seem to be typical for the adsorption of large molecules since no significant dependence of the TED and of the I–V characteristic on the kind of the organic compound could be found. The characteristic phenomena are pointed out and explained by resonance through double potential barriers. The computed transmission of different double potential barriers is discussed. The so-called “size resonances” are responsible for the strong current increase and the occurrence of distinct new peaks in the TED. The model explains qualitatively: the fluctuations of the current and of the TED, the width of the new maxima, the influence of the field strength on the position and relative height of the maxima, the convex curvature of the log I c − 1 U a characteristic and also the dependence of the half width of the TED on the work function of the substrate (for single atoms with a broad energy level in the neighbourhood of the Fermi level) measured by Plummer et al." @default.
