The intermetallic compounds that were observed in the lutetium-cobalt system were Lu3Co, Lu4Co3, LuCo2, LuCo3 and Lu2Co17. The Lu2Co7 and LuCo5 compounds do not exist, the ratio between the atomic radii of lutetium and cobalt is too small. The three richest lutetium compounds exhibit only a high Pauli paramagnetism. The two others are ferromagnetic. The magnetic behaviour of cobalt essentially depends on the number of alloyed lutetium atoms. On the other hand, the differences between interatomic distances in compounds with lutetium and with yttrium have minor effects on magnetic properties while they determine the magnetic behaviour of iron in similar compounds." @default.
