- W2012602277 abstract "Abstract It is shown that for timelike phase paths the asymptotic properties of the charged fields of the manifestly gauge-independent, path-dependent QED of Mandelstam are those of local fields in formulations of the conventional theory in terms of coherent state. The formalism implies that a physical charged particle is always accompanied by a soft-photon cloud and that in the presence of other charges it acquires a relativistic Coulomb phase. Thus the results obtained by Kulish and Faddeev and by Zwanziger are reproduced. A novel feature of the present approach is the appearance of an additional phase, similar in structure to the ordinary Coulomb phase, but independent of external charge distributions. This phase may be regarded as a residual effect of the primordial separation of the particle from its oppositely charged counterpart. An illustration of the results is given with a discussion of the path-dependence of the gauge-invariant two-point Green's function." @default.
