- W2012655012 abstract "Abstract Numerous bullet-shaped particles approximately 960 A wide and 1200–1400 A long, were observed in negatively stained preparations of crude leaf extracts from transitory yellowing virus (RTYV) infected rice plants. Each particle had a deep central core 450 A wide, and fine projections about 70 A high extruded outward from outer membranes of particles. The center-to-center distance of the cross striations inside the particles was about 50 A, and the width of each band was approximately 30 A. Virus particles were also present in dip preparations of the diseased leaves. In ultrathin sections, particles of 940 A by 1800–2100 A were found in large number in infected cells, closely associated with the nuclear membrane of the cells. In some sections, particles were aligned at the periphery of the nucleus with one end attached to the nuclear membrane forming a continuous connection between the envelope and the virus particles and the nuclear membrane. The viral envelope, approximately 210 A thick, consisted of three layers. Since these particles were not found in preparations from healthy plants, they are believed to be the viral agent of rice transitory yellowing disease." @default.
