The micro combustor is assumed to have a cuboid combustion chamber which is 15.0 mm in the streamwise direction with 10.0 mm × 10.0 mm cross-section. To investigate swirling effects on flow and combustion field, DNS of both cold and reactive flow is carried out under two swirl number conditions: S=0.6and1.2. Large-scale coherent structures such as ring-shaped or helical structures are generated near the inlet of combustion chamber, and a lot of small-scale vortices appear downstream. Small scale eddies play an important role in flame wrinkling which causes high-frequency oscillations of pressure and outer recirculation zone in downstream region, whereas flame front of turbulent swirling premixed flame tends to be entrained by large-scale coherent structures. The center positions of time-averaged central recirculation zone appear in a fixed streamwise location without dependency on swirl number in combustion flow. For both swirl number cases, the ratio of total heat loss on the walls against total heat release converges to almost a constant value and it reaches approximately 25.0% for the present micro gas turbine combustor configuration." @default.
