Auger yields were evaluated to convert the experimental cross sections for Auger-electron emission into the corresponding cross sections for double electron capture. It is found that the cross sections attributed to the configurations 3[ital lnl][prime] follow a [ital n][sup [minus]3] law, while the excitation of the configurations 4[ital lnl][prime] is rather selective for [ital n]=5. It is shown by means of model calculations that the electron correlation plays a decisive role in the capture mechanisms producing the configurations 3[ital lnl][prime]." @default.
