- W2013360417 abstract "Ribosomes from Ehrlich ascites-tumor cells were pretreated with polyuridylic acid (poly-U) under varied conditions, and washed by centrifugation through a layer of plain medium with high density. The activity of these particles in phenylalanine incorporation was significantly higher than that of control particles preincubated in the absence of poly-U. The activity declined fairly rapidly, however, and gradually approached that of the control particles. The decline took place even in the absence of energy supply but was markedly enhanced by the presence of cell sap or the pH-5 enzyme fraction. By utilizing the first few minutes of incubation, when the poly-U-dependent incorporation activity was still relatively high, the effects of varied conditions of pre-incubation were studied. The activation was not enhanced by the presence of energy or cell sap. It took place very rapidly, and no distinct time dependence could be demonstrated. A very broad Mg2+ optimum was observed. Chloramphenicol was not inhibitory except at very high concentrations. In spite of the fact that the reaction was strongly inhibited by poly-A, this polynucleotide had no inhibitory effect on already activated microsomes." @default.
