- W2013509311 abstract "Abstract Causal factors controlling the sediment composition in the Early Miocene Zogelsdorf Formation of Lower Austria have been derived using R-mode principal components analysis on the point counts of sediment components in thin sections. Four factors are found to be primarily responsible for the distribution of sedimentary components which comprise coralline algae, bryozoans, bivalves, barnacles, echinoderms, foraminifers, brachiopods, serpulids, as well as terrigenous components and muddy matrix. The interpretation of factors is based on the relationships of these components within the factors; the ecology of the calcareous organisms; the distribution of components within the formation; and the comparison to similar recent and fossil sedimentary environments: (1) The supply of terriginous sediments controls the distribution of bryozoans and serpulids, (2) increased hydrodynamic energy is advantages for bivalves and barnacles; (3) the occurrence of seagrass might explain an increased presence of foraminifers and echinoderms; (4) the distribution of coralline algae is controlled by light intensity which is dependent on water depth and suspension load. Biological interactions with shell incrustations by epibionts intensify the relationships of components within the above mentioned associations." @default.
