- W2013897151 abstract "Abstract Oxygen enhanced nuclear magnetic relaxation measurements (1H, 13C) were used to monitor local oxygen concentrations in lecithin bilayers and other lamellar systems. The solubility profile across the lamellae could thus be derived with a spatial resolution of better than 6 A. Transport properties are discussed on the basis of the solubility profile and the diffusion coefficient. A relationship between solubility and free volume is presented and compared with the solubility/free volume jumps at the diverse phase transitions of hexatriacontane, used as a well defined model compound. A quantitative description of the experimental data is possible and can be compared to a solubility formula derived on the basis of Cohen—Turnbull theory. The free volume is assumed to be almost completely provided by structural defects. An analogous treatment enables diffusion properties of small solute molecules in synthetic membranes to be described. A relation between the permeant diffusion and the diffusion of structural defects may be established." @default.
