The photocurrent measured was found to be the algebraic sum of the partial current resulted from competitive reactions of disulfide, sulfide, carbonyl or protonated amino groups in a protein molecule with the emitted electrons. Using the high reactivity of proteins toward the emitted electrons and the strong adsorbability of proteins on the mercury electrode surface, proteins such as bovine serum albumin, human immunoglobulin G, α-chymotrypsin, lysozyme and gelatin were determined at low concentrations less than one microgram per cm3. The utility of this electron photoemission method for microdetermination of proteins has also been demonstrated by means of the antibody coated electrode." @default.
