- W2014236227 abstract "Ozone (O3) therapy for chronic wounds is advocated in the last 10 years. The effects of topical ozone treatment on chronic wounds are characterized by anti-inflammation and neovascularization. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of sterile ozonated saline irrigation on endometrial parameters of normal ovulating women. A clinical crossover trial. Study population consisted of 12 healthy ovulating volunteers age 22–33 years old with no uterine or endometrial pathology. All women underwent preliminary gynecological examination, ultrasound scan and blood test for hormone profile. Women were followed for three cycles. First cycle – the control cycle: All women underwent ultrasound scan followed by endometrial irrigation with 10 cc normal saline using a transfer catheter (K-Soft, Cook, Australia) on day 10 of the cycle. On day 12 of the cycle women underwent ultrasound scan followed by endometrial sampling using the Pipelle (C.C.D. International Paris France) endometrial sampler. Second cycle: Follow-up only with no intervention. Third cycle – the study cycle: Women went through the same procedure as the first cycle but the endometrial irrigation was done with 10 cc of sterile ozonated normal saline. Histological specimens were fixed in 4% buffered formalin and were embedded in paraffin wax. Immunohistochemistry was performed on deparaffinized slides. Ten random fields (X200) were assessed for each patient, measuring: 1. Glands diameter and thickness (from the basal membrane to the lumen) 2. Blood vessels number (By counting factor VIII stained slides) 3. Proliferative index (ByKi67 nuclear stain of glands) 4. Number of stromal cells All patients completed the three cycles. No negative side effects were reported by the patiens. The results are summarized in table 1.
