- W2014381305 abstract "The trace element content of two laterite profiles on serpentinite has been investigated. The Rockhampton profile has a thickness of 95 ft., the Greenvale one is 60 ft. thick. The majority of the trace elements studied such as Cr, Sc, Ga, Ge, V, Ni, Co, Mn, S, Zr, Ag, Pt, Pd, Pb, Cu and Zn have become concentrated with regard to the values of these elements in the fresh parent rocks. Subdivision of the profiles into the upper ferruginous zone, an intermediate montmorillonite zone, and the lower decomposed serpentinite zone, shows that in general in both profiles the maximum concentration of the elements occurs in the upper ferruginous horizon. Important exceptions are the elements Zn, Mn, Ni and Co which in one profile have their maximum values in the upper ferruginous zone, but in the second profile studied, the greatest concentration of these four elements occurs in the intermediate montmorillonite zone. It is suggested that these four elements are the most mobile, and that their association with one or other of the two zones could be related to the maturity of the weathering profile." @default.
