An interpretation of the ring opening and breaking processes for ionized molecules can be given by determining the composition and to some extent the structure of fragment ions and by studying the metastable transitions. The molecular ions have mainly the structure (CHOH–CH 2 –CH 2 –CH 2 –CH 2 ) + . The rearrangement ions OH 2 + , OH 3 + , CHOH 2 + common to alcohols have been found. Some conclusions are in agreement with previous results obtained with cyclopentanone, methylcyclopentane and cyclopentyl bromide, in particular the fragility of the α(C–C) bond." @default.
