- W2014485587 abstract "Serum from tumor-bearing rabbits injected with rabbit cells (SIRC) transformed by the ml clone of Moloney murine sarcoma virus (MuSV) recognized a 55,000-dalton protein (P55) present in cat and rabbit cells infected with ml MuSV. P55 was not detectable in uninfected cells. Both producer and nonproducer cells infected with ml MuSV contained P55 but it was not detectable in Moloney murine leukemia virus (Mo-MuLV)-infected cells. Immunoprecipitation experiments performed with monospecific sera clearly indicated that P55 did not contain determinants characteristic of viral core proteins, gp70, or reverse transcriptase. Peptide mapping experiments showed that P55 did not contain tyrosine-containing tryptic peptides specific for any of the viral core proteins of Mo-MuLV nor did P55 resemble the map of ml MuSV-specified P60. The tumor-bearing rabbit serum also recognized P60 but only poorly recognized ecotropic and xenotropic virus Pr65gag and p30. However, the sera recognized the envelope precursor (gPr83env) of these viruses but not gp70. In addition, the sera readily precipitated a 15,000-dalton protein, tentatively identified as p15(E). Absorption of the tumor-bearing rabbit sera with disrupted Mo-MuLV drastically reduced the titer antibodies directed against P60 but had little effect on the serum's ability to precipitate P55. These absorption results, together with data from our structural and immunological studies, provide strong evidence that P55 is not a MuLV structural or envelope protein, nor is it related to reverse transcriptase. Furthermore, these findings, as well as its presence in ml MuSV-transformed cells but not in uninfected cells, suggest that P55 may be a ml MuSV-induced protein. Whether or not P55 is of cellular or viral origin remains to be determined." @default.
