- W2014630664 abstract "Background: Prostate adenocarcinoma is the second leading cause of cancer in men. In combination with digital rectal examination (DRE), the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) assay is currently the most effective screening test. Methods: In the present study, PSA values of 381 male patients with prostatic disease were analyzed in order to select cutoff points in quantitative diagnostic tests. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and two-graph receiver operating characteristic (TG-ROC) analyses were performed. Results: In the receiver operating analysis, the AUC was 0.86 (95% confidence interval, 0.81–0.92) (P<0.0001). TG-ROC allowed us to determine a threshold of 17 ng/mL for the indication of a bone scan; the possibility of bone metastasis was 4%. Conclusions: Although broader approaches using multivariate analysis with the inclusion of different demographic, clinical, and imaging parameters provide added value for clinicians, TG-ROC analysis has clear advantages over conventional analyses in the assessment of the values of PSA determination for the diagnosis of metastatic and nonmetastatic prostate cancer." @default.
