- W2014703608 abstract "In order to examine the interaction of dietary fat and carbohydrate in the regulation of lipid metabolism, we have studied hepatic and extrahepatic lipogenesis, hepatic triacylglycerol secretion and adipose tissue lipoprotein lipase in fasted rats previously fed one of the following diets: a fructose based diet containing 0 (F0) or 150 g (F15) corn oil/kg or a glucose based diet containing 0 (G0) or 150 g (G15) corn oil/kg. The rats were meal fed the diets for 2 weeks, then fasted 24 h, after which we measured the activities of a number of hepatic ‘lipogenic’ enzymes; the rate of triacylglycerol secretion using the Triton WR-1339 technique, the activity of epididymal fat pad lipoprotein lipase and the rates of hepatic and extrahepatic fatty acid synthesis using 3H2O. The activities of the lipogenic enzymes were generally: F0≈G0>F15>G15. Lipoprotein lipase activity was F0=G0=F15=G15. The percentage of total body fatty acid synthesis which occurred in the liver was F0=G0>F15=G15. The rate of triacylglycerol secretion was F0>G0>G15=F15. We conclude that when diets contain approximately 30 energy % fat, fructose does not lead to increased hepatic VLDL production." @default.
