- W2014711611 abstract "1. Lipid extracts obtained from Eisenia foetida were purified and fractionated into the major polar and less polar lipid classes. 2. As expected an extremely limited range of sphingolipids and sulphatides was found. 3. The only glycerophospholipids found to occur at high levels were phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine and phosphatidyl serine respectively. No α-glyceryl ether groupings were detected, but plasmalogen levels were quite high for phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl serine. 4. The neutral lipid was characterized by its comparatively high monoglyceride and free fatty acid content, though most of the fatty acid was present as triglyceride. No O-alkyl diglycerides were detected in the triglyceride fraction but O-alk-enyl-diglycerides (neutral plasmalogen) were present. 5. The major sterols present were cholesterol and 7-dehydrocholesterol with unidentified more polar material also present. 6. The findings are compared with those obtained from studies on other invertebrates." @default.
