- W2014901611 abstract "The present development insures that all sulfur enters the coulometric cell as SO/sub 2/ and is based on the reactions of SO/sub 2/ with CuO. The sample is first oxidized in oxygen and the combustion products are passed over CuO at 700/sup 0/C, a temperature at which stable CuSO/sub 4/ is formed. Partially oxidized hydrocarbons are oxidized by the CuO so that both olefins and soot are eliminated. In a second step, the CuO/CuSO/sub 4/ zone is rapidly heated to 900/sub 0/C where SO/sub 2/ is released and is easily measured. Organic solvents, butyl sulfide, naphtha, wax, and polypropylene were analyzed for trace amounts of sulfur. 1 figure, 5 tables." @default.
