- W2014991966 abstract "Adrenals from 15-day-old chick embryos were incubated for 15 and 30 min with 1,2-3H-progesterone. Most of the radioactive metabolites were characterized and quantitated or semiquantitated, and some endogenous steroids were also determined. Endogenous progesterone is present in incubations corresponding to both sexes and increases with incubation time in samples of female adrenals. Radioactive progesterone decreases in both sexes. From progesterone, two pathways originate, one leading to the usual corticoids (I) and the second to 5β-pregnanedione (II). (I) comprises deoxycorticosterone (DOC), corticosterone, an unknown corresponding either to 18-OH-progesterone or the “L” form of 18-OH-DOC, 18-OH-corticosterone, and aldosterone. The yields of these substances decrease in this order, i.e., as the distance from the precursor increases. (II) is quantitatively important, endogenous 5β-pregnanedione being present in amounts equal to one-third of that of endogenous progesterone. A sensitive method for the determination of saturated as well as unsaturated 3 ketosteroids to 0.1 μg is described." @default.
