- W2015105474 abstract "The movement of cord blood neutrophils (PMN) was studied using the Boyden's chamber method. Newborn PMNs migrating in 3-μm-pore size filters showed decreased chemotactic responses against activated pool sera or denaturated casein. Chemotactic indexes of neonatal PMN approached those of controls when larger pore size filters were used. Random motility also showed to be defective in the newborn. A checkerboard analysis of chemokinesis and true directional movement disclosed a chemokinetic defect, the “true chemotaxis” being normal. The results presented, together with data provided by other studies, strongly suggest that the defective PMN movement seen in the neonatal period affects random and random stimulated movement, while the orientation ability in cytotaxin gradients appears normal. The underlying defect is probably due to one or more alterations of the cell membrane leading, at least, to impaired cell deformability." @default.
