- W2015161730 abstract "A pheochromocytoma with an unusually high content of catechol amines, mainly adrenaline, was analysed for its nucleotide content. Only small amounts of nucleotides other than adenosine phosphates were found. AMP and ADP were present in about the same concentrations as in the normal adrenal medulla, but ATP had a concentration about thirty times lower. The analyses indicate that no appreciable break-down of ATP could have occurred post mortem. It is concluded that at most a minor portion of the catechol amines could have been stored in the same way as in the normal chromaffin cell, viz. in combination with an equivalent amount of adenosine phosphates. The tumour cell thus seems to have a defective storage mechanism. The findings also support the view that this cell accumulates high concentrations of catechol amines presumably in a free state in the cytoplasm. Two other pheochromocytoma with lower amine content were analysed with essentially the same results." @default.
