- W2015208434 abstract "METHOD Adult guinea pigs, weighing not less than 700 grams, were irradiated (whole body) with 200 KVP x-rays at a target distance of 50 cm. with 0.25 mm. of copper and 0.51 mm. of aluminum added filtration. The dose-rate was approximately 55 r. per minute for total doses of 5,000, 7,500 and 25,000 1'., as previously described (1). At appropriate time-intervals thereafter the animals were sacrificed following anesthetization with 30 mgm. of pento barbital intra-peritoneally and intra-cardial perfusion first with physiological saline and then with formol-ammonium-bromide. The brain was removed and allowed to fix further in formol-ammonium-bromide. Following embedding in paraffin or celloidin, sections were stained by Hematoxylin and Eosin, Gomori's (9) trichrome, and cresyl violet or Windle's thionin technics. Some sections were stained by Weil's technic for myelin sheaths, by Mann's technic for nucleoli, by Lillie's azure-eosin technic, and by the Feulgen reaction for desoxypentose nucleic acid. In addition, frozen sections were made of some blocks following embedding in gelatin, and were stained with Sudan IV for lipids and by Hortega's silver carbonate method for astrocytes." @default.
