- W2015219218 abstract "abstract This discussion examines the current communication strategies used by educators in Alabama in HIV prevention efforts designed for African Americans. It presents findings gathered from a case study of the state's HIV/AIDS prevention efforts, with a focus on work conducted in urban areas. The findings reveal that many organizations in Alabama are making use of minority‐sensitive communication strategies found to be effective in HIV prevention literature. However, the state continues to experience great difficulty reaching marginal communities and faces increasing infection rates among African Americans. One possible reason could be that too much power in the state's prevention effort continues to be held by predominately White‐run organizations, a situation that maintains the vulnerable position of the at‐risk communities being addressed." @default.
