- W2015353957 abstract "Abstract The Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner model of SU(3) × SU(3) breaking provides a pion sigma commutator σ jk which has no isospin T = 2 component. Because of this and especially in view of recent evidence that this model is not experimentally confirmed in meson-baryon scattering, another model employing (8,8) breaking is considered. A hamiltonian of the Barnes-Isham form is adopted and the operators are developed for use in an analysis of the pion-to-pion matrix element of σ jk . Estimates are made of the parameters of this model, and the T = 0 and 2 form factors of the matrix element are examined by means of a hard pion formalism adapted to analytic function methods. The T = 0 and 2 s-wave ππ phase shifts are extracted. It is shown that the (8,8) model, analyzed in this way, provides an unsatisfactory description of the existing data on these phase shifts. The data identify the reason for this failure to be that the T = 2 component of σ jk is too large in the (8,8) model. The outlook for other alternatives is discussed." @default.
