- W2015404908 abstract "The diversity of tropical rain forests in Southeast Asia is a great source of forest materials and provides human interconnections as well. It should be noted that the minor forest products are being gathered by forest dwellers, while the wide scale commercial activities are handled by traders. This is characteristics of commerce and trade in the archipelago, which differs very much from thgose in continental Africa and South America. The trades between China and Brunei had started and stabilized as early as 10th century. Originally the Brunei merchants had no knowledge about the forest. The forest products were collected by the Chinese merchant from the smaller native groups in the forest. Penan, one of the huntergatherer groups in the deep forest of Borneo, sold their products to merchants. Penan’s attitudes to forest resources are anchored in “molong”, a concept in preserving natural resources on sustainable basis. This concept is not only found in Penan but seems wide spread throughout the world including Japan. Among them is the Kitayama Forest, northeastern Kyoto, considered the most traditional in Japanese forested area. However, it is here, where the systematic natural resource management was carried out and developed a unique technology which meets the demand of a modern society like in Kyoto city. Meanwhile, in Venezuelan Amazon, the forest-dwelling people and the government seek to establish a good connection of diversified natural resources and new biotechnology. The people in the forest are capable enough of adopting new waves from the outside. Thus, aside from the traditional shifting farming, new plantation crops were introduced in the area to enrich their life and gave meaning to the younger generation of their connection with other people beyond their group. The cash reached to the very depth in the forest through logging and Chinese merchants. Because of extensive loggings large timber resources are becoming scarce and will be out of supply very soon. With this development, to make better use of minor forest materials to high quality products is a matter of necessity for the future. Actually, this technology has already been implemented in many remote villages in Southeast Asia. To understand the philosophy and learn the technique is essential for the creative management of tropical rain forest." @default.
