We discuss the relationships between several theoretical approaches and their application to experimental measurements. Available calibration data are collected from studies of the compound nuclei $^{75}mathrm{Br}$* and $^{117}mathrm{Te}$*. Semiempirical use of the theory and these calibrations provides a very interesting possibility for determining fragment spins in deeply inelastic reactions. A further possibility is provided by empirical use of the emission multiplicity ratios for $^{4}mathrm{He}$ to $^{1}mathrm{H}$. These methods are used to estimate the root-mean-square spin of the projectilelike fragments produced in deeply inelastic reactions of 724 MeV $^{86}mathrm{Kr}$ + Au.NUCLEAR REACTIONS Synthesis of theoretical equations that relate anisotropies in particle evaporation to spin of the emitter.
