- W2015508369 abstract "Typical mechanical products can be assembled in various sequences of assembly operations. These sequences can have an impact on the assembly time, machine utilization and even on the product quality. In order to select the best sequence of assembly operations, it is required to properly evaluate the various sequences of assembly operations. This, in turn, requires to consistently evaluate each assembly operation in the sequence. The assembly operations can be evaluated by various criteria and the focus of this paper is the operation's difficulty. This paper describes a methodology to analyse the degree of difficulty of the sequence of assembly operations, performed to assemble a product. This methodology consists of analysis of each operation individually, and then an analysis of the entire sequence. The degree of difficulty of the individual operation is represented using fuzzy triangular values, generated using an expert system. Once each operation is assigned a fuzzy degree of difficulty, the entire sequence gets an aggregate value, consisting of a crisp number. This aggregate measure of difficulty allows comparison between alternative sequences, and selection of a preferred one. As an extension of the methodology presented, the paper describes an algorithm that finds the best sequence of assembly orientations based on the degree of difficulty assocated with each orientation." @default.
