- W2015651689 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the thermal energy storage (TES) and highlights the strategy in a war against waste of natural resources. It also discusses the concepts of temperature and entropy. In reversible processes, entropy production is zero and entropy enters just as the energetic quantity of thermal processes. Through reversible Carnot engines, the entropy can be transported from high to low temperature and provide work or the work can be supplied from outside sources. As long as the reversible processes are concerned, the thermal process behaves exactly like all the other energetic transport processes. The difficulties start with the irreversible processes. Unlike other thermodynamic functions, energy is not defined for a given system in itself but is a characteristic of a system in relation to its surroundings. No flow of entropy takes place without a temperature difference. Any flow is accompanied by a loss of energy and a production of entropy." @default.
