- W2015759105 abstract "Using an electro-ejaculator, semen was collected from five Nigerian Yankasa rams, aged 2–3 years, twice a week for 12 weeks. A total of ten collections per animal per week was made, and semen was evaluated for colour and consistency, volume, mass and progressive forward motility, sperm cell concentration, total sperm cell concentration, proportion of live sperm cells, proportion of dead spermatozoa and percentage of sperm cells with normal morphology. There were no significant differences between rams (P>0.05) for volume (1.25±0.1 ml), concentration (0.62±0.02×109 spz/ml) and proportion of motile sperm cells (38.6±2.6%). Day of semen harvest (Mondays or Thursdays) significantly affected (P<0.05) the proportion of motile sperm cells (40.1±8.3 and 36.6±4.6%) and spermatozoa with normal morphology (83.0±2.4 and 75.1±5.3%), but not the volume (1.1±0.1 and 1.4±0.2 ml). Mean total sperm concentration per ejaculate was 0.79±0.04×109 spz/ml. The results demonstrated that capacity and output of ram semen was not exhausted at the frequency of collection in this study." @default.
