- W2015762059 abstract "The selective modification of the single tryptophanyl residue of human chorionic somatomammotropin by reaction with 2-nitrophenylsulphenyl chloride (NPSC1) and 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzyl bromide (HNB-Br) has been carried out and the effect on the immunological and biological activities of the hormone investigated. It has been found that NPS-somatomammotropin still possesses growth-promoting, but not lactogenic activity. On the other hand, HNB-somatomammotropin shows impaired somatotropic and lactogenic activities. Both modifications strongly impaired the ability to bind anti-human chorionic somatomammotropin antibodies. However, HNB-somatomammotropin maintains a limited ability to bind anti-human growth hormone antibodies, indicating that tryptophan may not be an essential part of the antigenic determinant(s) shared by human chorionic somatomammotropin and human growth hormone." @default.
