- W2015805969 abstract "The antigens encoded by class I and class II genes of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) are an exception among transplantation antigens in that they elicit not only T-cell-mediated rejection responses, but also antibody responses. Immunoprecipitation could therefore be used to isolate and characterize these antigenic proteins. From there, it was possible to clone and sequence the MHC genes (Ploegh et al. 1980). For the other transplantation antigens, notably, mouse minor histocompatibility antigens, tumor-specific transplantation antigens (TSTAs), and male-specific antigen H-Y, repeated attempts have failed consistently to produce specific antibodies. As a result, the structure of these antigenic molecules and the identity of the encoding genes have remained completely unknown. We have developed a gene transfection approach aimed at identifying directly the genes that code for this type of antigen. It was applied to transplantation antigens that arise on mouse tumor cells when they are treated with mutagenic agents; however,..." @default.
