- W2015899646 abstract "Cells which differ in function often have distinct molecular structures in their membranes. These structures can serve as markers for particular cell types and can be recognized by means of specific antisera raised against the markers. Specific antibodies against membrane markers of human cell have a number of actual and potential uses. In diseases which involve abnormal function of the immune system such as autoimmune diseases and immune deficiency, or in diseases in which the immune system plays an important role, such as transplant rejection, the enumeration of T and B lymphocytes has been carried out for some years. The more detailed analysis of functional subpopulations which is now being undertaken using functional receptors or differentiation antigens as markers is already providing a mechanistic insight into some of these diseases, and can reasonably be expected to be diagnostically useful. In the lymphocytic leukaemias and lymphomas it has become apparent that the lymphocyte type may correlate wi..." @default.
