- W2016036452 abstract "Analytical solutions in terms of Weierstrassian elliptic functions are given for the motion of a mass-point under the attraction of an heterogeneous spheroid. The problem is restricted to the interior of the spheroid and to the plane of symmetry. The distribution of mass in the spheroid exhibits roughly the main features of the fields of attraction of stellar systems. The range of apocentric velocities allowing stars to reach central regions is considerably restricted (Fig. 5), if compared with the range in Keplerian orbits. The relation of pericentric to apocentric velocities is shown in Fig. 6. Nearly circular orbits near the centre have successive apocentra 180° apart. With increasing size of the orbit the successive apocentra begin to approach one another and eventually will coincide, in analogy to Keplerian orbits. For still larger orbits a number of revolutions around the centre is necessary for the completion of the anomalistic period of these orbits. If the number of revolutions in one period becomes infinite, the orbits become unstable in the sense of the Lindblad criterion of stability. An analysis shows that stars are not systematically repelled away from the zone of unstable orbits." @default.
