- W2016083922 abstract "A flashback to the various developments in electron Spectroscopy is attempted. Different sources of excitation will be discussed and their applications in different scientific situations. In view of the energy dependent mean free paths of the photoelectrons emphasis can be put on either the surface layer or the region below, e.g. the interfaces in layered compounds or composition studies of the external part of bulk matter. Special problems are related to the studies of liquids and solutions. New approaches are presently under development to extending the region accessible by lasers down into the VUV. The extremely narrow band widths, tunability and pulse timing, all at reasonable costs, are attractive features for excitation purposes of electron spectra in these energy regions by laser. Promising fields are found in molecular physics and surface physics related to e.g. semiconductors and band gaps studies." @default.
