When the lowest-orders anharmonicities are taken into account, the basic nonlinear integral equation is reduced to a set of transcendental equations which can be solved numerically. Such an approach is used as a zeroth-order approximation. The statistical perturbation theory enables one to take into account the effect of higher-order anharmonicities on the Helmholtz free energy and on the thermodynamic properties of strongly anharmonic crystals.
