- W2016118410 abstract "Abstract The development of hollow fiber composite reverse osmosis modules capable of delivering 100 – 300 gpd permeate is described. Such modules are in field trial against brackish and seawater. These QuantroTM modules employ hollow fibers of 250μ or 500μ O. D. and wall thickness of 7μ or 150μ. First generation FRL composite membranes are composed of a porous support of commercial polysulfone and a furan-based rejection barrier having cation exchange properties. The continuing development of a reliable pilot plant facility is described with attention to fiber spinning, coating, winding, and potting. Module design is briefly discussed. Present fiber properties in laboratory tests include collapse pressures in excess of 1500 psi against 2,000 ppm aqueous sodium chloride. At 800 psi, flux/ rejection combinations of 10 gfd/99.7% and 25 gfd/99.2% have been generated. Chemical modification of the rejection barrier produced fiber delivering 4 gfd and 99.0% rejection of seawater at 1200 psi with excellent rejection stability. No effort was made to avoid iron fouling. Such fiber is made reliably and predictably in pilot plant quantities. The module design incorporates features of superior brine flow to minimize concentration polarization and module fouling. It also employs a superior pot design to avoid creep and shear failure." @default.
