- W2016129832 abstract "The effects of arginine vasotocin (AVT), isotocin, oxytocin, and hypophyseal extracts of Pollachius and Carassius have been compared on the kidney and the gill of Carassius auratus. AVT and oxytocin as well as the hypophyseal extracts produce a diuretic effect accompanied by an increase of the renal loss of electrolytes, while isotocin does not affect the urine flow (it may occasionally have a weak antidiuretic action) and may also produce a reduction of the renal excretion of sodium. All three peptides and the hypophyseal extracts produce a stimulation of the sodium influx by the gills, AVT being the least efficient. AVT, oxytocin, and the extracts, but not isotocin, produce a simultaneous increase of the sodium outflux. The physiological significance of these observations is discussed." @default.
