- W2016169439 abstract "This article attempts to demonstrate the influence of Schelling upon the thought of Franz Rosenzweig and, in particular, upon the development and formation of his most famous work, the Star of Redemption. That this is no fortuitous association is clear from Rosenzweig's early research on the fragment that has come to be known as The Oldest Systematic Program of German Idealism. Although most scholars had supposed Hegel (and some even Holderlin) to be the author of the fragment, Rosenzweig argued for the authorship of Schelling. As this article seeks to show, however, it is not Schelling's early philosophy, but his late, so-called positive philosophy that claimed Rosenzweig's attention. Indeed, it is argued that Schelling's late, existential philosophy (in particular his unsparing critique of Hegel) not only showed Rosenzweig the way out of German Idealism, but also provided a basic plan for the coordinates of the Star of Redemption itself. Of principal importance in this regard was Schelling's term unvordenklich, a term that directly figures in Rosensweig's understanding of metaethics, metalogic, and metaphysks, and signifies, respectively, the unfathomable aspect of the human being, the world, and God." @default.
