- W2016177580 abstract "Abstract In Euglena gracilis cytoplasmic rRNA (cyt-rRNA) synthesized in the nucleolus and cytoplasmic tRNA (cyt-tRNA) synthesized in the nuclear matrix are built up from a common UTP pool. Using the approach of Wiegers et al. (Eur. J. Biochem., 64 (1976) 535–540) based on several prerequisites which were checked for E. gracilis , we compared steady state specific radioactivities of both RNAs with that of 5′-uridine triphosphate (UTP) under two extreme concentrations of [ 3 H]-uracil fed exogenously. The specific radioactivities of cyt-rRNA, cyt-tRNA and UTP were found to be equal for both concentrations of the label applied. By computing the data of steady state specific radioactivity of cyt-rRNA and cyt-tRNA according to Greenberg (Nature 240 (1972) 102–104), half-life of these RNAs was found to be 45 h. On the other hand, in the decay analysis of cyt-rRNA and cyt-tRNA a half-life of 70 h was determined for both of them suggesting reutilization of RNA breakdown products. This is also suggested by a half-life of 24.5 h for UTP in the decay analysis." @default.
