- W2016208087 abstract "Questioning the claim of a “clear-cut change” in understanding mind around age four, we designed a live scenario logically analogous to the Sally and Ann script. We compared the scores of 80 children aged 4 to 5 years 6 months in the two tasks using the standard pointing/naming criterion, verbal justifications and epistemic pattern of justifications. When pointing was used as the pass criterion, children who passed the live scenario also passed the script, while the reverse was not true. When epistemic answers were required, however, the live scenario showed higher scores than the script, thus suggesting that the pointing criterion does not guarantee a metarepresentational processing of false belief in the case of script tasks. Another question was the role of previous personal experience of false belief in attributing false belief to others. The 40 dyads of 4 years to 5 years 6 months played the live scenario alternately as the deceiver (acting out the unexpected change without the other child's knowledge) and the deceived child. Experiencing deception in the same conditions as the partner facilitated prediction of the partner's false belief only for the oldest children." @default.
